BASF is planning a new Automotive Application Centre in Asia

BASF has announced that it will be investing in its first regional Automotive Application Centre in the Asia Pacific region, which will be located at the BASF Innovation Campus Asia Pacific in Shanghai, China. The start of operations is planned for the end of 2018. As an integrated part of BASF’s existing research and development facilities for coatings solutions within the Innovation Campus, the 33.7 million euro investment will include a new application centre. This will be equipped with spray booths for electrostatic applications, a physical testing lab and a 3D robot, together with process catalyst research and development laboratories. The facilities have a floor area of 5000 square metres and are designed for customer-focused research and development activities and the simulation of OEM paint shops. Asia Pacific is by far the world’s largest automotive market with 48.6 million vehicles manufactured there in 2016, which amounts to 52 percent of global production.
