BYD Auto Company Limited, a Chinese e-vehicle manufacturer, is building its first car plant in Europe in Szeged, Hungary. The painting technology with over 120 painting and handling robots, including their installation and commissioning for various painting lines, is being supplied by machinery and plant manufacturer Dürr. “We not only impressed with our outstanding technology, but also with our experience in Hungary, where we have already worked several times,” reports Dr. Lars Friedrich, Head of the Application Technology Division at Dürr.
Painting robots from the new generation of the Eco RP series in 7-axis and 6-axis versions are used in the interior and exterior areas of the painting lines. The seven-axis robot is designed to paint the interior areas of the car bodies with high precision and flexibility. The extended maneuverability helps to ensure that even extensive areas of the body can be easily reached. Six-axis robots are used to paint the exterior surfaces. The scope of delivery and support for the painting process also includes the corresponding door and hood openers.
The Eco Bell 3 high-speed rotary atomizers were developed to produce an optimized coating in terms of color tone and leveling values as well as coating thicknesses with high uniformity. Further advantages of the atomizer family with associated cleaning device and color change technology are low paint and solvent consumption as well as fast color changes within the cycle time.
The standardized, modular Eco Supply P paint supply system with pigging technology is used for the sustainable implementation of special colour requests from the car manufacturer’s customers. The scope of delivery also includes cleaning robots that remove loose dust and dirt particles from the bodies before coating. Flexible spring rollers allow different body shapes to be cleaned efficiently and independently of each other in a variety of combinations and sequences.
