A research project has been set up to coat carbon fibres with metal using vapour deposition and electroplating processes. These methods provide the opportunity of applying evenly distributed metal coatings of different thicknesses to the carbon fibres. This new approach has the potential to provide solutions to challenging problems, such as the development of wear-resistant lightweight structures.
