Wieland invests in thin-film technology

The Wieland Group is expanding its product portfolio to include thin-film coating technology. With an investment of EUR 6 million, the world's leading supplier of semi-finished copper products plans to significantly expand its activities in thin-film technology over the next two years. "The entry into the industrial coating of metal surfaces with silicon dioxide is an ideal addition to the Wieland Group's product portfolio", says CEO Dr. Erwin Mayr. As an in-house start-up company, Wicoatec GmbH can thus offer its customers the entire value chain – from the idea to series production. In order to meet the high demand for the Wicoatec technology, which according to the company's own statements is high, the capacity currently being built is tripled once again. The possible applications for the coating range from machine and plant engineering, the petrochemical and chemical industries to water and medical technology. The organic-ceramic coatings are intended to improve corrosion resistance as well as the physical-chemical surface properties and enable a uniform and complete coating of complex geometries of metal foams, 3D structures in heat exchangers or internal surfaces.
